Mindfulness and Faith | Tea Time with Amber [Episode 1]

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. For me, taking some time each day to connect with the Author of my faith can bring a sense of peace and clarity that nothing else can. One of my disciplines is starting every weekday with a quiet hour of prayer before my children awaken, followed by meditating on God’s Word. For that, I’ll usually read a biblically-based devotional; but, lately, I’ve been enjoying listening to Scripture on the Bible Gateway app. (There’s a Verse of the Day on their homepage, and I’ll usually listen to the entire chapter of it.)

Mindfulness helps us to focus on the present moment. As believers, this awareness is enriched by knowing that God is with us. Being still before God through biblical practices such as meditation, prayer, praise, worship, and Bible study brings peace to our minds, hearts, and spirits. At the same time, scientific studies show that mindfulness meditation effectively reduces stress and calms anxiety.

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.

Isaiah 26:3, NKJV

This verse beautifully encapsulates the peace that comes from focusing our hearts and minds on God. Even if you don’t have an hour-and-a-half for prayer and Scripture reading, just a few minutes of setting your minds on Christ can set the tone for the entire day, helping you to stay centered and focused on what’s important.

Incorporating these mindful moments into our routines are a wonderful way to embrace a slow and simple lifestyle. It reminds us to be present, appreciate the little things, and recognize our Heavenly Father’s goodness, which, in turn, makes us feel content to live purpose-driven lives for His glory.
